Customer service is one of the most challenging human interactions. It brings together two sides often driven by different pressures: customers’ expectations and service workers’ need to deliver within those expectations. In moments of frustration—whether it’s a long wait, a miscommunication, or simply a bad day—patience can run thin. For customers, the anxiety of unmet needs can lead to negative feedback. For service workers, the weight of such reviews can take a toll on morale, often leaving them feeling demoralized and underappreciated.
Out of curiosity, I decided to dig into the world of negative reviews written about service workers. Using publicly-available cybersecurity sources and methods, I gathered reviews posted on [REDACTED] between January and May 2024 for establishments across the United States, then carefully de-anonymized them to remove any details that could identify the employees or establishments involved. The goal was not to point fingers but to ponder the underlying dynamics that led to such reviews.
These reviews, while short, give us a window into the fragile nature of public exchanges. What happens in the heat of the moment might seem trivial, but the aftereffects—on both sides of the interaction—can linger much longer than expected.
